Glockenspiel | Manchester School of Art

April 10th 2014

Manchester Metropolitan University , Oxford Street, Manchester

The “Glockenspiel” is an environmental data sculpture that is wholly designed and produced by a team of staff and students from The Manchester School of Art and manufactured in the School's workshops. It represents a fascinating modern take on a traditional "Glockenspiel", the figurine clock found on bell towers, and interpreted here in a completely new design approach, with time being replaced by energy values and mobile data. Energy usage of the Art School building is monitored throughout the day and referenced in LED counters whilst being archived on a website.
